Australian Government have now enforced further unprecedented restrictions


The Australian Government have now enforced further unprecedented restrictions across a variety of sectors, extending the measures put in place on Sunday night.  

These drastic measures are being put in place in attempt to slow the spread of the Coronavirus, after the country has seen a significant growth of positive cases in the past week. 

Below is a full list of Businesses, premises and places that will now see restrictions or closures.

Food & Drink

  • Cafés/Restaurants

(Takeaway service and home delivery only. Cafés or canteens at hospitals, care homes or schools; prison and military canteens; services providing food or drink to the homeless, workplace canteens can provide takeaway only)

  • Food Courts

       (Delivery and takeaway can remain operational only)


  • Auction Houses
  • Real estate auctions and open house inspections

(Private appointments for inspection only)

  • Outdoor and indoor markets will be a decision for each state and territory 

(Food markets will continue to operate in all states and territories)

Beauty & Personal Care Services

  • Hairdressers & Barber Shops

(1 person per 4 square metre rule applies)

  • Beauty therapy, tanning, waxing, nail salons & tattoo parlours, Spas and massage parlours

Entertainment Venues

  • Cinemas
  • Night clubs
  • Casinos, gaming or gambling venues
  • Concert venues, theatres, arenas, auditoriums & stadiums

Amusement Parks & Arcades

  • Play centres (indoor and outdoor)

Leisure & Recreation

  • Community & recreation centres

(Facilities may remain open for the purpose of hosting essential voluntary or public services, such as food banks or homeless services)

  • Health clubs, fitness centres, yoga, barre & spin facilities, saunas, bathhouses & wellness centres
  • Boot camps, personal training operating inside & outside

(For outside events, limited to groups of no more than 10 people and social distancing must be exercised)  

  • Social Sporting-Based Activities
  • Swimming Pools

Residential Facilities

  • Hotels, hostels, bed & breakfast, campsites, caravan parks & boarding house

(Decisions made by each state or territory. Excluding permanent residents and workers)

Non-residential Institutions

  • Galleries, Museums, National Institutes and Historic Sites
  • Libraries, Community Centres & Youth Centres
  • Local Government non-essential facilities & services (e.g. community halls, clubs, RSLs & PCYCs)
  • Places of worship, weddings & funerals

(Weddings with a maximum attendance of no more than 5 people and where the 1 person per 4 square metre rule applies)

(Funerals attended by a maximum of no more than 10 people and where the 1 person per 4 square metre rule applies)
